Jaerey Velasco

Jaerey is experienced in a wide range of family law matters, both contentious and non-contentious, often with an international element. She advises and represents clients on all aspects of matrimonial and family law, including pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements; divorce; child custody, care and control, and access arrangements; enforcement and variation of care and control, and access arrangements; international relocation of the children; applications for temporary removal of the children from Hong Kong; ancillary relief applications relating to interim maintenance, litigation funding, spousal maintenance, and child maintenance; enforcement and variation of spousal and child maintenance orders; division of matrimonial assets and financial settlements between the parties which involves family trusts.

Jaerey is a qualified collaborative practitioner and regularly attends mediation and settlement meetings with clients in order to assist to resolve outstanding ancillary relief and children’s issues without having to go to trial. Jaerey has resolved numerous cases in Financial Dispute Resolution hearings and Children’s Dispute Resolution hearings in the Family Court. She also has substantial experience in assisting clients to participate in co-parenting sessions and parenting coordinators to resolve matters relating to children in an amicable manner. Jaerey combines a resolute commitment to securing results in the client’s best long-term interests with a sensible and pragmatic approach.

Jaerey also has substantial experience in commercial and civil litigation in District Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal, representing both corporate clients and lay clients. With a background in contentious commercial and civil litigation, Jaerey is able to assist clients in an acrimonious and highly contested litigation.

Prior to coming to Hong Kong to pursue her studies in law, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours (2010) and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (2011) at the City University of Hong Kong, Jaerey graduated from De La Salle University with a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Philosophy (2005). Jaerey also attended a training course on Parenting Coordination in November 2016 and completed an Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice Training in November 2018.
